SNHPA Welcomes New Staff

Rob Recklaus - Director of Government Relations

SNHPA is pleased to welcome Rob Recklaus as its new Director of Government Relations.  Rob is responsible for developing and promoting SNHPA’s legislative and policy initiatives to members of the U.S. Congress and Administration officials.

Prior to joining SNHPA, Rob served as Chief of Staff and Communications Director for U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy of New York. Rob was responsible for implementing all phases of the Congresswoman’s legislative and political initiatives on a variety of issues, including health care.  Rob also served as Assistant Director of Corporate Affairs for PowerUP, a technology based youth development nonprofit organization and has worked on several political campaigns.

A native of Chicago, Rob is a graduate of Illinois State University’s Department of Politics and Government.

Stuart Gordon - Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs

SNHPA is also pleased to welcome Stuart Gordon as its new Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs. Stuart is responsible for addressing the broad range of legal and regulatory issues that arise in connection with SNHPA's activities and projects and is actively involved in a variety of legislative and policy initiatives.

Prior to joining SNHPA, Stuart served as Director of Policy and Programs for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores. At NACDS, he focused on prescription drug reimbursement issues such as those arising under Medicaid, Medicare Part D and state Part D wrap programs, SCHIP, 340B, and workers compensation. In addition to his five years at NACDS, he also worked for the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, the LifeSpan Network of Maryland and DC long-term care providers, and the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association.

A journalist and attorney by training, Stuart worked in the Maryland General Assembly over two stints covering 10 years, as legislative committee staff, supervisor of the review of state agency regulations for the General Assembly, supervisor of the legislature's amendment office, code revisor, and senior bill analyst. He has worked as a staff writer on the Frederick, Maryland News-Post newspaper and as a broadcast news writer on the Voice of America 's central news desk. One of his most proud accomplishments is Under the Dome, a 350+ page history of the Maryland General Assembly in the 20th Century, which he created, edited, and managed to publication in 2001.

Stuart is a member of the D.C. and Maryland bars. He earned his undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Maryland and his law degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.


Tom Mirga - Contributing Editor

We are also pleased to welcome Tom Mirga as a Contributing Editor to SNHPA.  Tom is responsible for editing and writing stories for SNHPA’s monthly newsletter The Federal Drug Discount and Compliance Monitor and also contributes to the organization’s member-only electronic news bulletin.  In addition, he will provide guidance on the editorial content of SNHPA’s Web site and other publications and will assist on other projects.

Tom is a veteran editor and writer who has focused his career in the areas of healthcare, environmental, and education policy.  His past clients in the health policy arena include the National Commission on Urban Indian Healthcare, the National Health Plan Collaborative, the Long-Term Care Pharmacy Alliance, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Progressive Policy Institute’s (PPI) Health Priorities Project.

Tom is the former editor of the Democratic Leadership Council’s magazine The New Democrat and the former executive editor of its policy journal Blueprint.  He was also news editor of the national newspaper Education Week and a senior associate at the Washington, D.C.-based public relations firm, Communication Works.  Tom is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
