Office of Pharmacy Affairs Has New Name As Part of Reorganization

In late February, the Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) within the Health Resources and Services Administration announced a major reorganization which has affected the administration of the Public Health Service’s 340B drug discount program. As a result of the reorganization, the Office of Pharmacy Affairs (OPA) has been eliminated and replaced with the Pharmacy Affairs Branch (PAB) within a new BPHC division called the Division of Health Center Development (DCHD).  This change is part of a larger reorganization that is going on within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  Among DCHD’s tasks is “to manage and expand the number and types of organizations that participate in the 340B drug pricing program.” Jimmy Mitchell, who was OPA Director, is Acting Bureau Chief of the PAB and the other OPA staff have also been transferred to the PAB. We will keep you informed of new developments.

The web site address and phone numbers for the PAB and its staff will remain the same. For more details about the Bureau’s reorganization, please click HERE for the Federal Register notice.
