Ted Slafsky is the executive director of Safety Net Hospitals for Pharmaceutical Access (SNHPA), a non-profit organization of over 700 hospitals and health systems participating in the federal 340B drug discount program. Mr. Slafsky oversees a team of government relations experts, attorneys and pharmacists who advocate on behalf of member hospitals and provide guidance on how to maximize pharmaceutical savings and ensure compliance. Under Mr. Slafsky's leadership, the organization has grown from 50 member hospitals to over 700 and SNHPA's staff has increased from just two employees to over 20 staff and consultants.
In addition to his focus on advocacy and member services, Mr. Slafsky oversees a number of conferences and meetings on the issues of improving access to pharmaceutical care and ensuring compliance with drug laws.
Mr. Slafsky, along with his colleague William von Oehsen, is also responsible for the creation and publication of the Drug Discount Monitor, the first publication to focus specifically on the 340B program. He and Mr. von Oehsen serve as the publication’s joint editors-in-chief.
Before his work with SNHPA, Mr. Slafsky was a reporter and researcher at U.S. News and World Report, where he provided editorial assistance to David Gergen, the magazine’s editor-at-large and an advisor to four U.S. presidents. Mr. Slafsky also wrote and researched articles on health, education and other policy areas. He was also a fellow at the Senate Democratic Policy Committee under the leadership of former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell and former Democratic Leader Tom Daschle.
Mr. Slafsky received a bachelor of political science degree from Tufts University magna cum laude and a master of public policy degree from Duke University. |
