Ted Slafsky is Executive Director of the Safety Net Hospitals for Pharmaceutical Access (SNHPA), an organization of over 400 public and private non-profit disproportionate share hospitals and health systems that participate in the federal 340B drug discount program. Mr. Slafsky directs the day to day operations of SNHPA which has experienced significant growth in membership and staff over the past few years. In addition to his focus on advocacy and member services, Mr. Slafsky helps manage a number of conferences and meetings on the issue of improving access to pharmaceutical care and ensuring compliance with drug laws. Mr. Slafsky, along with his colleague Bill von Oehsen, is also responsible for the creation and publication of the Federal Drug Discount and Compliance Monitor, the first publication to focus specifically on the 340B program and other indigent pharmacy issues.
Before his work with the Coalition, Mr. Slafsky was a reporter and researcher at U.S. News and World Report, where he provided editorial assistance to David Gergen, Editor at Large and advisor to four U.S. Presidents. He also wrote and researched articles that covered a wide range of topics including health, education, and other policy areas. Mr. Slafsky was also a fellow at the Senate Democratic Policy Committee under the leadership of former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell and former Democratic Leader Tom Daschle.
Mr. Slafsky received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Tufts University magna cum laude and a Master’s of Public Policy degree from Duke University’s Terry Sanford Institute for Public Policy.
